Birds Can Fly, Why Can't I?

If birds have wings and can fly, why can't I fly?

Birds are warm blooded vertebrates, most having the ability to fly. Their bodies are covered with feathers, with wings, and a tail. Almost all birds have the ability to fly, because their whole body is designed for flying, but some cannot, such as the ostrich. That is because the ostrich is too heavy. All birds belong in the “Animal Kingdom.” The three main parts of a bird that enables them to fly is: the wings, feathers, and the tail.

Birds depend on their body to be lightweight, in order for them to create lift. Their bones, beaks, feathers and almost all parts of their body are made to be light, small and durable. Unlike us, birds are made to be small animals with medium or giant sized wings, in order for them to create lift and fly. The main parts that help a birds fly are: The Wings, Beaks, Their Hollow Bones, Their Tail, and Feathers. All of these parts are used to help the bird create lift.

There are four everyday forces that act on flying objects. They are: Thrust, Drag, Lift, and Gravity. Thrust is the forward motion and force of an object or thing that helps to generate lift. Drag is the pulling force

Even with wings and feathers, you would not be able to fly, because we weren't designed for flying. Birds, on the other hand, have such things like hollow bones and beaks instead of jaws which make them perfect for flying. Also, they have strong muscles when flapping there wings which allows them to create thrust, which eventually allows them to create lift. Other than reducing weight, birds also try to reduce drag to keep them afloat. Their tails, shape of feathers and size have all been made like how it is up to today so it can reduce drag.

Scientists and inventors have used this common knowledge to many of our modern inventions, such as airplanes and helicopters. The wings of an airplane are shaped very much like the bird's airfoil shaped wings. Also, in addition to that, we have gained many knowledge and facts from studying the flight of birds. Without birds, none of us may have had the chance to be able to fly in the air, or travel to other countries yet!
