this year has been a very active year for disasters, now we have once again had another disaster with hurricane Ike that has left people homeless, A lot of folks have lost all or most of their belongings and have to start all over. The Red Cross is always there to help and now they need our help.
A lot of times we don't think about the Red Cross until disaster strikes but as you are reading this please think about them today, sit down and write them a small check. Even a dollar added to many will be a help and can change a life.
You can help out the Red Cross by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This fund helps the Red Cross provide shelter, food, counseling and many other things to victims of disasters.
The American Red cross will honor donor intent. This means if you wish to designate your donations to a certain disaster area you can do it at the time of your donation.
According to the red cross they respond to 70,000 disasters each year, most of the responses are silent disasters that never make the news, such as home fires. They are there for torontotours, hurricanes and wild firers. They also help out families at Christmas time as well as food and shelter during the year for folks. They also use the donations to send their volunteers to areas of disaster where they are needed. The list goes on and on.
The cost of providing relief has outpaced contributions, just as things have went up for us they have also went up for the Red Cross yet they are still there for us and always respond quickly.

You can also donate $5.00 (five dollars) to the Disaster Relief Fund by using your cell phone and text messaging the key word "GIVE" to "2 HELP" (924357) you can send multiple donations depending on your cell phone carrier. your contributions using the cell phone method will appear on your monthly cell phone bill or will be deducted from your prepaid account balance.
You may also send your donation to The American Red Cross, P.O Box 37243, Washington DC 20013 or to your own local American Red Cross chapter.
