Al Gore's Decree on Global Warming is Not Our Only Crisis

With all due respect to former Vice-President Al Gore, given his many years of dedication and his recently awarded Pulitzer Prize for his work on making the world aware of “Global Warming” and though still shrouded in some controversy, our even greater world problem is “Global Pollution”.

In the last few decades, we have been experiencing a gradual warming trend throughout the world and truly, if this warming continues at its present rate we are told, it will cause havoc upon most of the processes that sustain man. Our food supplies will dwindle because of greater deserts being formed, our water supplies will reek greater levels of dangerous bacteria. Disease will become rampant in many areas of the world and may eventually overwhelm our resources and abilities to deal with their scavenges, to name but a few. We can in no way even begin to undermine these possibilities, but there is still one scourge that can plague mankind in the very near future, if our world leaders do not face a surely more pressing reality.

Are We To Believe That The World Is Missing An Even More Pressing Issue?

It is true that both the U.S. and the rest of the world is now and even has begun in some critical areas to deal with this present issue by “preparing” themselves to slowly (really, as quickly as possible) wane away from “fossil fuels” in order to lower the global “footprint” enabling the release of the heat absorbing carbon dioxide gas, hoping that in the effort will lower this release. Throughout the world, many nations have and even daily are committing most of their efforts into switching to the course of the future by using Wind, Solar, Geothermal, etc. sources of renewable power, which will not release carbon dioxide into our atmosphere and hopefully reversing Global Warming. Wow, with all this effort, we will be able to sit back and relax. Not really.

In Our Attempt To Reverse Global Warming, We Have Overlooked One Thing.

True, in the attempt to reverse global warming, it will lower much of the future air polluting gases which will hopefully reverse the Earth's heating, but the present pollution levels of other human toxins that have been created from the past will not be reversed, such as mercury, PCB's, etc. in our oceans, lakes and soils, etc. and if we combine this with the ongoing pollution of the food we consume, which are grown using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, genetically engineered seed, etc. and then are processed using additives such as food imitations, colorings, preservatives, conditioners, hydrogenated oils, etc., along with artificial sweeteners of great diversity, not to mention that much of the food we consume is “irradiated” before it reaches the grocer, the human body, many expert nutritionists contend will eventually overwhelm the unique workings of its organs, causing disease and untimely deterioration. It may be that this will be our undoing long before the Earth reaches a level of inhabitability. Should this be some food for thought?

It's scary, isn't it? And now we hear that the US will have no water within 5 years. They will never be able to do enough in time to make a difference. While we had the resources they abused them and when they were told we would one day soon be in trouble, money meant more than caution.

While I was out on the weekend I drove passed the house I moved from last year. It is in the country with beautiful trees, wildlife and three very large ponds on neighbouring properties. I was shocked to see all three ponds dried up! There was not even enough moisture left to leave a bit of mud in the bottom.

I'm not listening, I'm not listening! It is quite distressing if you think about it too much but I will continue to find miracles and beauty each and every day. That way I will continue doing what I can, to make the right choices, to make this world a better place to be.

Thank you Darlene for your input and further info. That was very interesting.
Lucy...You have a bright attitude and who knows, this may just be a fluke and come to pass and be swept from our memories. Thanks.

I believe in miricles and the Natural Climate that can beat man to a better world. Ok we are cooling off now for the next 30 to 40 years period. So we can go back to eco-thinking about real environment problems and not bother with Co2 that doesnt do anything bad.

Thank you for your comment. I am primarily concerned with the constantly increasing pollution of the waters and the air. Mercury levels have limited the types of fish we can eat, etc. It must be reversed.

It could all easily come to a horrible end if we do not leave ourselves fresh water to drink and food to eat! Can we be that stupid? This article is another awareness eye opener! Good work and excellent writing.

Global warming is happening. Who or what or to what extent any one thing is the cause is open to debate. However, humans are emitting lots of carbon into the atmosphere and so are helping it along. Question is, is global warming a good thing?
As for the rest, we, humanity, are also polluting the hell out of our water resources, both fresh and salt. We are dumping lots of non-biodegradable stuff in our oceans and we are excreting lots of chemicals used to keep us \'healthy\' into water systems that are in one way or another, recycled.
Now, does anyone thing the humanity as a whole will get a handle on these processes and straighten it all out?

First, in response to your comment, Lucy...Greed is the motivator of all evil doings in this world...Where there is money and profit thereof, the results from these actions are not of great concern to many governments and some people alike.

Thank you Bob for your indepth comment. I agree in part with your input, but remembering my great times with home gardening, I always dreaded the early frost that could destroy my tender tomato plants and maybe now this \"Global Warming\" thing will extend the shorter growing season in the northers U.S.. Of course, I\'d rather not think of some of the negative factors that may arise.

I too think that pollution is a greater and more immediate threat than climate change, although the two factors are inextricably linked. And pollution is not only a threat to the humans who cause it, it also adversely effects the ecology and the plants and animals who are innocent of making any contribution to the pollutants that humans spew into the air and water.
