We've all heard the phrase “dress for success” but very few people (especially men) actually know what it means. Does it mean practical? Or maybe it means flashy? Well I'm here to tell what you're looking for is a combination of both, and I'll also give you a few tips on how you can achieve your desired look. I've done quite a bit of research, as well as experimentation with this topic and consequently have learned what works and what doesn't. I don't claim to be an expert, but I do know a thing or two, and now you can too. So lets get started shall we?
- First thing you're going to want to do is think about the context that you're going to be in. Is it going to be a club scene, a job interview, or just a night out with friends? You're obviously not going to want to wear a tuxedo out to play a round of golf. Once you've determined that, it will make choosing what to wear much easier.
- After you've figured out the context, ask yourself “What will everyone else be wearing in that situation?” If you need to get a clear picture, or you can take a look on Google or through a magazine to find what works and give you a better idea of how to proceed. Also, wearing clothes that are similar to others is a good way to connect with them. It helps create rapport, and the sense of having something in common, which can only be a good thing.
- So you've figured out the context and how others might dress for the occasion. Now it's time to use what you've learned and add some flare. This can help make the style your own, if you can remember one thing: KISS - Keep It Simple and Subtle. The key to catching someone's eye in a positive way, whether it is on a date or to snag that amazing job is through those subtle details. A polished ring, a good looking watch, a well colored shirt to compliment the pinstripes. By keeping it subtle you can attain that perfect style. Adding a little color is great, but keep it to one color and for the most part stay away from too complicated of patterns and exceptionally bright colors.
- Guys: Wear a good pair of shoes and keep your hair style up to date. Those two things can make all the difference in how you're overall presentation comes off to people. You can either come off as a Hobo or Frank Sinatra largely based on those two things. Dress how you want to be seen, as a successful up and coming individual in whatever you're doing.
