The Eternal Embrace

The archeological find of 5000 year old bones belonging to a couple in a lover's embrace. could there be more to this ancient mystery of love.

With Valentines Day on the way archeologist announced the discovery of the skeletal remains of a couple buried five to six thousand years ago who appear to be in a lover's embrace. The find raises so many questions and give so few answers. It does say a lot about the nature of man and woman. It also gives a true vision to the iconic ideal of having and being a soulmate.

The significance

Considering the fact, the remains are just a bunch of intermingled bones, unless it becomes a goth symbol of love no one is going to have the picture mounted and framed. I do imagine this may fuel a Will Smith movie based on the fantasy it portrays. With divorce and single parenting at an all time high, is eternal love just a fantasy? No, it isn't and despite two divorces I have seen the proof. It may not have come about in the most conventional of ways, but it exists. It is real.

A true story of the hardship of love.

I'll begin with my own mother and father. For fifty-five years these people loved, suffered, fought, and even hated and broke up. When one gave up the other did not. Each took their turn. Today, my parents in their seventies and in poor health refuse to be separated. For them everyday is Valentines Day. They have their own version of the eternal embrace working for them.

A possibility of inspiration.

An interesting fact about the boney couple that was uncovered is the location. The area they were found was twenty-five miles south of Verona. The city served as the setting for Shakespeare's romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. Could it be the myth and lore of this couple fueled the origins of a classic? Could they be these were the original star-crossed lovers of all time?

Our modern tragic lovers.

We have seen our versions of the star-crossed lovers in our own times. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor seem set the tone for the modern template. Will anyone ever believe Sonny and Cher stopped loving one another? Have you ever met someone you felt to be your own soulmate only to have them slip away?

A truth about love.

Love is an emotion that will always be a mystery. When it happens, it really cannot be explained. We know it just is. Sometimes it is the greatest feeling in the world. Other times it the cause of the most painful heartbreak. Our problem is holding on to that love when we find it. To do this we look to stories, movies and songs. Sometimes we are so busy romanticizing the emotion we forget to look to where it began. Its origin lies with us. They answer to holding on to love may be simply to stop looking beyond its origins.

The mystery of the bones and love.

The archeological find of the eternal embracing couple will keep a few scientists busy. They will study the bones to death to solve the mysteries of their meaning. No matter how hard they try, they will never uncover the true story behind the burial. They decipher the sex, health and age. They will never know the feelings, emotions, experiences or hopes and dreams of the people the bones belong to. I am sure at some point it will be called one love's greatest mysteries. Life is short. Maybe it is better to just enjoy the fantasies of love and realize its mysteries are best left unsolved.
