For me the definition of success in business is profit. Without marketing your business may not expand and grow. If the bulk of your business comes in off the street because you are the only merchant in town that provides a certain product or service. Then possibility you may not need to market to much. But on the internet if you want people to visit your website you must have a method to drive traffic to the site.
Once they get to the website you want them to take action, either by clicking on your ads or buying your product. But first off you need visitors and its better to have visitors that are interested in what you are selling. You will sell more of what ever you are selling if you put your ads or articles in front of people that are interested in at least the area you are marketing. For example you wouldn't try to sell people interested in organic food chemical pesticides. The likely hood of them buying chemicals from you is less than someone that is already using chemicals.
So I would say rule number one would be to identify your market and find a hungry crowd that is looking for what you have to sell. If you do that certainly your marketing efforts will be more productive. Rule number two I would say is to create a few websites and test them to see which one makes the most sales. It has always amazed me that just a few modifications to my website and i make more sales. It could be a different color or even a totally different format. But test out different websites. You will be surprised as I was went you find out that your pink site sells more products that your blue website.
Rule number three is to keep trying continue to tweak your marketing efforts. You do not have to spend tons of money to experiment with your website. You can test out different traffic sources for free if you search the web. You will find hundreds of web-rings traffic exchanges that would be more than happy to have your website in their traffic generators.
In my experience the people who succeed in this game and it is a game are the ones who keep trying. Not always the ones who spend hundreds of dollars promoting their site. But spending money to get traffic can be the answer also, many of the successful marketers that I know have figured out that if they purchase an amount of traffic and make a few sales they are in profit.
You can do it also the web is very large and it seems that their is always room for more quality websites and people with an interest in helping others. If you are looking to increase your business and join a community that actually cares if you succeed give us a try free!
