The Young & The Restless

Drugs: A social evil which is sucking the lives & happiness of many young kids & their families. This write up is a small effort to curb the hell hole.

I recently read a book called "Black Hole" by Charles Burns which compelled me to write this article. Earlier, whenever I used to hear the word youth, I used to picturise energy, spontaneity, joy & life. But now, ever since I have read "Black Hole", the words which dominate my thoughts are drugs, darkness & death.

The time when a child is blooming into a young man or woman is called adolescence. This is the time when the clay is wet & a grown up individual is being shaped up. It is during this time when the basic habits, nature, temperament materialize. But, once the pot is dried & acquires a shape, it can only be broken.

Drug addiction amongst youngsters is a big issue in many countries. Surveys show that kids between 12-17 years of age are the ones most adversely affected. We have seen zillions of govt. organization and NGOs working towards spreading awareness. But, the questions remains, is this enough? Is that able to save lives of young misleaded souls? Are we able to pull them back from hell?

So, what is it that we can do? Can we, as individuals help the affected kids around us to emerge out of this social evil? The answer is yes! We can & as responsible human beings we must!

While not everyone who uses drugs becomes addicted, many people do. Drug addiction involves compulsively seeking to use a substance, regardless of the potentially negative social, psychological and physical consequences. Certain drugs, such as narcotics and cocaine, are more likely to cause physical dependence than are other drugs.

Breaking a drug addiction is very difficult, but not impossible. Support from the doctor, family, friends and others who have a drug addiction, as well drug addiction treatment, may help you beat the drug dependence.

If you are a sufferer too, then you can, along with counseling and attending self-help groups, have faith in yourself. Remember, a strong will power can help you kill the urge.

Give yourself time, avoid high risk situations. For instance, do not hang out with peers who are under the same influence. Always remember, that peers are true friends only when they make you a better human being & not if they push you something fatal & ruining. Boycott them immediately for your own & your family's good.

Life is precious & beautiful. Live it to the fullest!

great article. I am from a small town with drug addiction (opiates) all around me. It saddens me to see people not giving life a chance because drug addiction has destroyed their will to reach their full potential. It's very sad to witness. I will check out this book. Thanks.

A very nicely written piece; certain data if had been added, it would have made it still more worthwhile; neverthless a sincere effort and worth appreciating.
