What Justice Means to Me

It is no secret that justice is hard to come by sometimes, and the basic concept of justice itself can get obscured, lost in the day-to-day pursuits of the law.

I remember this as I think of Rubin Carter, a black man who served time in a prison for a crime he did not commit. Political vendettas are what caused the imprisonment of Rubin Carter. It wasn't caused by truthfulness or the due process served to its fullness. There was no “bill of rights” endowed for this man.

Justice, to me, should be the thing we as people always strive to achieve. It is the only way to make society better, to help victims and to make sure punishment is fair.

This belief is what led me to want to help. Seeking justice, a balance to make society safe, to help people feel secure and free from fear in their lives is what I want to do. Educating myself to become a defense attorney accelerates my dream to serve the people of the United States with truthfulness and fairness in upholding the law. I want and intend to make a difference in what is happening in the world today regarding the injustice that occurs every day in our courts. The unjust whims of society echoing from the intimidation of the lies and deceit that now plague our justice system needs to somehow come to a halt. I may not be able to change everything in my ideals and passion for the law, but I am going to try my best to serve the people with truthfulness.

Being a defense attorney is serious and calls for a dedicated and truthful human being. As a defense attorney, justice is served by the zealous and timely efforts imposed by the person who is educated as a defense attorney. Justice is served by this attorney in the best possible pursuit. Each and every lawyer has had a dream to serve the public and to uphold justice. There are roads to take in serving justice. Some of them are defending what is right and not necessarily agreeing with what is being said in the courts.

Defense attorneys struggle with the court system every day. Media and the opinion of the public interplay with the attorney's role as the struggles continue to defend a client. A client's family is affected by the aspirations of the client. The victim's family is affected by the desire of seeing the criminal tried and punished. These emotional components of the defense itself carry a weight and transfer into the dedication of the defense attorney regarding him or herself.

Defending the law within the truth of justice as I believe it should be is the key to determination and the basis for the elimination of injustice. The foundation of our system within the United States Constitution should embellish each and every courtroom decision pertaining to matters of criminal justice pursuits. I wish to be a part of that dream and I wish to give of myself to others; the light that is needed to re-read the Constitution, and tell of its truthfulness and guide for our lives.

The reflection within everyone is good and the basis for human life is good. No one is totally bad or totally good. Everyone is different and gives to society a new viewpoint. The viewpoint which is always a different one should include the foundation of the Constitution. The foundation of the Constitution is the grounding point that should encircle the knowledge given to each and every defense attorney.

In conclusion, the basis for justice is found within the Constitution. The criminal justice system needs to be re-created and re-thought again. As a defense attorney, I hope to deliver the attributes of the Constitution and use them to give to the people the justice they deserve.
