Teen Relationships

Our teens are going through some much, but what about how their relationships affect them.

It seems that in today's society, teens are gaining more rights and are acting more and more "grown up." Teens are using adult language, and there is constant debate on lowering the drinking age, as well as the voting age. However, teens are also acting more grown up in their relationships.

The age for a steady and lengthy relationship is getting lower; younger and younger teens are celebrating dating anniversaries that are frequently a year or more. However, these meaningful relationships are also developing into one of a sexual nature at a younger age. This is leading to high rates of teen pregnancy, as well as higher percentages of teens with sexually transmitted diseases.

Why are teens becoming oversexed so quickly and so young? Children are being influenced by television that is gradually becoming more about sex than about entertainment, and also by dolls with short skirts and tight shirts, such as the ever popular Bratz dolls. These influences at such a young age, and the influence of the older generations clothing that is being designed to appeal to the younger, is leading to the oversexed generation of teens. This “American” culture is leading children to be exposed to sex at an earlier age, and therefore leading sexually active lives as teens.
