One ought to
have a professional and target oriented approach towards one's studies. In my belief,
to be successful in high school, besides hard work the foremost importance is that of
setting a fix target for oneself. Secondly, a strong decision power and a stable personality
having the ability to spend continuous time in studies are necessary. Then come other
points, which along with these are discussed below:
- A target for which one must strive. It can either be an achievement of a specific
goal or grade, or to stand at the top of all colleagues, or what so ever.
- Decision making - a good decision maker goes very fast and successful in his
field of studies.
- A persistent nature especially in studies
- Completing the most unwanted topic or subject first
- Do your work priority wise - It always saves time and so in the end none of your most important tasks is still left to be done.
- Revise what ever you read in your class.
- Time management - it is not a matter of becoming a robot or machine, what I mean to say is that one should try to manage every task by giving it appropriate time, neither wasting much of the time in it, nor limiting it to an extent to leave it incomplete.
- Another important point for success in high school is to have a practical experience wherever it is possible. It is because, a lot of things are not well understood unless and until you have practically done them, instead of understanding them only through the written material.
In order to explain it further, let us go to further discussion. I believe that a target
oriented student does much better than others. In my high school time, one of my friends
was crazy about getting admission in King Edward Medical College, the most
prestigious medical college of the city. In order to achieve that goal, she
was required to attain more than 85% marks, and when the result came, she was on top
of the class and got admission into her dream medical school.
Making right decisions at right time makes one very successful. This property
helps in exams a lot. At the time of solving papers, one is under great stress. For example,
in a MCQ type paper, it is only the right decision in short time, which helps one to pass
the exam, besides the knowledge that one has with oneself. Those who lack this property
waste a lot of time in confusions, thus many of the questions remain un attempted due to
shortage of time.
Consistency and persistence of nature for studies is another conditions for success
in high school as was said by Benjamin Disraeli, The secret of success is consistency to purpose. Students who interrupt themselves again and again during their studies by
indulging in such activities as needless eating, phone calls, gossip, setting the room etc,
can never attain the required concentration of mind. These things often come in way,
when one finds any study topic quite difficult or boring, one finds escape ways to
temporarily get rid of such hard studies.
The topics which one is afraid of the most, should be covered ahead of other
subjects. This gives relaxation in a way that now all of one's time is for the subjects
which one likes the most and this makes the studies easier. In the beginning of the studies
when one is more enthusiastic, covering difficult topics takes less time.
Remember revision is like a sweetener, the more you add in a food, the more it
makes it sweeter. A lot of students don't pay much attention to revision. The fact is, as
experienced by my own self as well, first reading gives a short-term memory. In order to
remember what we study, we need to revise it again and again, so it makes it firmly
imprinted in our brain.
Next comes the time management. It is not a matter of becoming a robot or
machine, what I mean to say is that one should try to manage every task by giving it
appropriate time, neither wasting much of the time in it, nor limiting it to an extent to
leave it incomplete.
Doing one's work priority wise surely makes a lot of difference. A student who
knows well about which subject or task is of utmost importance and should be covered by
him in the first place, and what should be done in some other time, mostly gets good
grades in high school. While those who do works according to their moods, never
become able to have a good hold on studies.
Let me tell you another view about success
as was told by Albert Schweitzer: Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you'll be successful. Believe in yourself, love your work, keep your eyes on a high goal or target,
set good time tables, improve your decision power, keep consistent in your studies, set
priorities for your studies, eat fresh and healthy, and take a sound sleep in the sleeping
hours, then no one can stop you from becoming a successful student.
So, while concluding, we can say that besides hard work, some other factors play
a key role for a successful high school career. These include making a goal, decision
making, being consistent in studies, setting the priorities for preparing exams, revising
the material again and again, covering the unwanted subjects first and managing the time
properly all pave the way to success in high school for a student.
In the end, my friend! do you really want to know the secret of success? The secret of
success as told by Anna Pavlova is
To follow without halt one's aim. That's the secret of success.
Everyone wants to hear such praises as “How well that student is
going!” or “who is so genius as Elbert Einstein and Newton?” but a successful student is
always the one who does all his efforts to achieve a high goal, and later on to maintain
that great achievement.
