Pros About Curfews

The Pros of curfews regarding teenagers.

In most houses, the rule is “Be back at home by 11, or you’re grounded.” In some houses, that is not the case. Many teenagers are out past 12 am or even some times 2 am, getting into all sorts of trouble. When they come to school the next day dazed and confused, they are very exhausted and usually sleeping in class while the guy next to them is poking them with a pencil. When someone is that tired, they don’t care if someone is poking them with a pencil. They don’t even care about school. If the city council proposed to make a curfew law that minors can’t be outdoors, that law would be very beneficial for the teenagers of that city.

Some people come to school tired from being out after 4 am. Some people come to school drunk because they had a 21- year-old friend buy them some whiskey. Some people even come to school high. Most drug dealers do not operate in broad daylight; it’s obvious they would have a higher chance of being caught. They operate in the wee hours between midnight and the crack of dawn. There are some teenagers that buy drugs from people at midnight. If there were a curfew law, granted we would not be able to put drug dealers out of business, but we would decrease the amount of minors on drugs. We would also hopefully decrease the amount of teenagers drinking and smoking also. There are people who buy tobacco products and liquor products for minors and like the drug dealers, they usually operate at night or behind closed doors. The amount of drugs, drinking and smoking would decrease in minors if that curfew law were in effect.

There are a lot of gangs on the streets of New York and Los Angeles. Granted, we don’t have the same amount of gangs here in Whiteland, but we do have our fair share of them. Most of the people in these gangs are minors. There are drive-by shootings every now and then in Whiteland in which some people are shot. These victims are usually not killed, but shot because of violence. Usually, when people get shot because of gang violence, it is in yet again, the wee hours of the morning. The amount of minors getting shot or even killed would decrease if there were a curfew law.

Every September, students are being taught everything they need to know about the I-STEP. There are some people whose ambition it is to pass plus in every part of it, and then you have the students that don’t even come on the I-STEP days. Or even worse, come on the I-STEP days tired, unprepared, or high. These people will fail miserably on the I-STEP. They fail because they were out so late and had no sleep before coming to school. If there are enough people that stay out late, they will ruin the school’s record in test scores. But if there are enough people to go to sleep at a good time and come prepared, our school’s average test scores will go up. If there is a curfew law, the school’s test scores should go up.

There are many reasons why people should stay off the streets after 10 pm. One is the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco in minors. The violence will go down and the test scores will go up. There is not a downside to this law. A few hours is plenty of time to hang out with friends and banter about their day and what not. It is not enough time to do anything bad around the city. That is what will make this curfew law successful.

You are so right. Yes i am a teen, but that doesnt mean I would be with this idea. To have a law like this would save so many teenagers lives in so many ways. We could have alot more people go to High school or even college because they would'nt be out all night smoking or drinking under the legal age.

Hey Jimmy! i am very very impressed by this piece of writing of yours it is amazing. I fully agree with you that if curfew law i set lives of teenagers will become more disciplined. Yes ofcourse we all want to have fun but lif eisnt always abouthaving fun there are responsibilties too and by govt. setting such law will improve lives of many teenagers as they wil no longer have access to illegal things during the night.

i think that the idea of a curfew would decrease the rate of drug and underage usage, if the curfew was set at 11pm it would be good and would lower the risk of teenagers underage drinking and taking drugs or smokeing if this does continue the curfew may have to be lowered in time to 10pm or even 9:30pm unless for good reason that kids are out of the house after that time, but i think that the max time they are allowed out untill should be 11pm

Your grammar is awful, I pity your parents. I bet you failed the ISTEP and everything else life related. I also beleive you have probably had your drivers license revoked for various misdemeanours (class 3) Silly you.
In Liberal Britain (where intelligence dwells) we are allowed out at all hours, and our murder rate is V LOW - proving we are nicer than you.

i feel having a curfew will suck... we are teenagers we love to have fun.. we really cant have fun on the week days... so thats why he take advantage of weekends... just because other teens are doin the wrong thing doesnt make it ok to have a curfew.... are parents should provide a cell phone or some type of agreement and all us teens need to do is let are parents no were we are.............. TEEN CURFEWS SUCK... I AM SO AGAINST THEM

hmmm... notice how all the people who can't spell or use grammar right are the ones who go out and party and do drugs and do bad in school. point is proven that there SHOULD be a curfew. and all you teens that don't agree, why don't you go get an education and learn how to spell because you all look like dumbasses.

state mandated curfews violate first ammendment of the constitution. it gives everyone of all ages to speack and assemble freely.Behavior such as walking down the side walk at night violate many curfew laws. But walking down the side walk doesn't harm anyone, and cannot possibly be classified as offensive, unlawful or juvenile.
#41 by sublime fan, May 21, 2008
also.. hha, you do realize that some people make typos, this is a comment post not an english essay, lay off. i like to party every one in awhile too but that doesnt make me unintelligent or illiterate. you only get to live once and i would rather look back and say"that was a stupid thing to do" then say"what if" or "i wish i had done that". sometimes you have to live a little

I wanted to use this article for a class debate/writing assignment, but I couldn't because of all the grammatical mistakes. Perhaps I’ll change the lesson to grammar correction.

well you are right but you know you also ahve to consider this. not every teenager iz going 2go do somethin stupid 2get them selves n trouble or in jail or dead. we\'re not all the same person so its actually kinda messed up 2go and say that o well since one stupid dumb a** n got themselves killed that you atomaticali assume that all the others will to. thats not really fair. it iz to but there is the other side to like my side and many others as well. for those dat are stupid have a hard time being able to go out and have fun being a teenager. every body says that we shouldnt grow up so fast onli reason that we end up that way iz becuz parents never let us live out our lives as a teen. im battling two very over baring parents. i can honestly say that i have made sum mistakes and i have admitted to them and paid my dues. i havent gotten in trouble for a while like a long while. shouldnt i be able to have sum like rewards or sumthin other wise im thinking no matter what i do its not good. i am me i am not evry body else just becuz other ppl do stupid sh** doesnt mean that i will!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in full agreement with this article. Teens need some sort of guidelines enforced by the government. Not every parent is always there raising their child. Curfews would prevent teens from being tempted with illegal activites. As another user posted earlier, you can't really say you've lived to you tried this or that; or something to that effect. This statement is completely out of line. Not everyone needs to have something dangerous and stupid, or within violation of your parents to say they've "lived". Most people are ashamed of what they did as a teenager. I, for one, know that I want to be able to look back at my life and say " Wow, I made some really good decisions. I'm glad I didn't do that. I exercised self-control." ...et cetera.

Another user said that curfews are within violation of the first Amendement. I beg to differ. Yes, the Constitution says all men are created equal, and that they should have equal rights. No where does it mention anything about age. The government is trying to raise good, law-abiding citizens - not legal hazards. By enstating a curfew, the are trying to protect and teach the next generation of our nation, as well as the current one.

Statistic show that curfews have dramatically lowered crime rate.

America needs to rethink this idea, and possibly enstate it as a Federal law.

The more teens fight the idea, the more we [teens] need it.
