Drinking Youth

Parents: Here's a guide on the alcohol consumption of underage kids today.

Why, Where, When and for What Reason?

Moms and Dads! Where do you think your children go on Saturday and Friday night's? What is that backpack for? Why does your child have to have a soft drink when he is going for a sleep over or a DVD night at a friend?

I'm a teenage boy, 17 years old, also getting drunk at parties and having fun with friends. The only difference between me and the other teenagers is that I am reaching adulthood faster than them.

My mind can tell me: “Enough is enough”. That most probably saved my life and those of my friends. It all starts like this:

Your friends call you and say if you are joining them. There is a party and everyone is there except his parents. You must bring your own things to drink (alcohol) and sometimes there is a barbecue so you must take your own meat.

You usually start drinking when you start the fire. Drinking on an empty stomach is vital. Then you eat, make another fire, chat and laugh. This is still all fine.

Until...

One of your friends gets a call… another party somewhere else in town. This usually happens between 10 o'clock and 11 o "clock. At this time everyone is almost mellow (a phase between drunk and sober) or drunk.

At this stage no one has judgment. They always end up riding with a drunk driver. They throw up in this person"s car. If you're lucky enough to survive the drives between the parties, then someone up there must like you a lot.

Returning to the friend's house you start to drink again. This time it is more deadly drinks. The one shooter after the other. Then when your child is pretty drunk, he decides to go home. He takes a lift with someone more drunk than him.

Finally the kid ends up alive at home. He jumps through the shower and goes to bed. The next day they have headaches and bloody eyes. All the want to do all day is sleep. They don't remember how they got to the other two or three parties they visited the previous evening.

So...What Is There to Do for These Parents?

  1. ALWAYS CHECK where your child is going and if there is adult supervision
  2. CHECK the backpack
  3. ASK what they are going to do
  4. IF your child requests a soft drink from you, ask what flavor he would like (it is usually Coca Cola/ Pepsi), then buy a different flavor
  5. ASK your child to get a number of one of his friends. Later that night you must call that number and insist to spoke to your kid. They always give a number of a responsible kid that would not go to such parties.
  6. DON”T say no, if your child wants to go to a party. He would find a way to get there and do irresponsible things just to spite you.
  7. REMEMBER that if you will only have this child for a few years. Then he would be off to college. Enjoy these few years/months/days with him/her.

I'm a 17 year old boy who did not have life easy but I never did anything that I regretted whilst I was drunk.

THE MORE YOU TAKE YOUR CHILD AWAY FROM SOMETHING THAT IS BAD FOR HIM, THE MORE HE /SHE WANTS IT. MAKE THEM SLOWLY USED TO THE IDEA OF DRINKING ALCOHOL.
