I agree that cell phones should be banned from school for three prime reasons. First of all, they serve no specific purpose in school, for the benefit of anyone. Secondly, by banning cell phones school will avoid a large sum of conflicts and problems that school will have to deal with. Thirdly, cell phones are an easy distraction for students.
There is no reason to have a cell phone in school. Many argue in favor of cell phones in school, for the occasion that student needs to be contacted because of an emergency, but their there are other means of contacting students. For example, the most common way is to call the school and have them direct the phone line to student. If a student wants to talk to another student he or she can wait till lunch or after school. Another important thing to know is the reason kids come to school is to learn. How do cell phones assist in a student's learning? Cell phones serve no purpose for learning, so there is no reason to have them in school. All they do is stir up issues and problems that teachers and Vice Principles have to deal with.
Another reason I am against having cell phones in school is because they are bound to create even more conflicts that could otherwise be avoided. For example, having a cell phone with you, at school, will raise the risk of being robbed. Cell phones are expensive and can easily be sold for high prices. They are already the one of the most stolen items next to mp3 players. The problem can easily be avoided by banning the cell phones from school to begin with. Cell phones can also, and have in the past, been used for cheating on tests. People would put their cell phones on silent and would text message answers, back and forth, between each other. Another issue is inappropriate use of the cell phones that have been taken place in classes.
Students using cell phones to videotape or record inappropriate things at school, has become an issue. These recordings include fights and teachers yelling at their students. Then they post them on the internet, on sites like Youtube. This actually happened in Mr. Protor's class a few months ago. When he was trying to have fun with the class, someone video taped it on their cell phone and posted it on Youtube and when the school found out they were furious. First the administrators had to deal with Mr. Proctor and what was going on in the class. Then they had to try and get it off the web and then find the person responsible. All these problems could easily be avoided by banning the cell phones from schools.
One reason cell phones should be banned from school is because they can be distracting to some people and also very disruptive. Students may get distracted from paying attention in class, by the many features cell phones have to offer. For example, rather then doing their work and being focused they may end up text messaging fellow classmates. Students may get distracted the games that cell phones offer, or the MP3's they can play. These distractions could affect their learning ability. They might be busy listening to their music or playing their cell phone games rather then listening to the teachers and taking notes. Allowing them to do this could also make it a habit, not just at school but at home and at work as well. Ring tones, that aren't set to mute or vibrate, may interrupt teachers during lectures and lessons, and may become a distraction to the entire classroom. By allowing cell phones in schools, you are setting the students up for failure and lower marks. So why would cripple the students abilities from achieving their full potential by allowing cell phones in schools? Banning cell phones is in our best interest.
Banning cell phones would be very beneficial. It would eliminate many unnecessary conflicts and problems that schools would have to deal with. Also putting a ban on cell phones in schools, would help make a better learning and working environment for students, so they could achieve more. There is also no real reason to have cell phones in school. That is why I strongly believe cell phones should be banned from schools.
