Why We Deserve a Spot in College

Me explaining on why I need a spot in college.

We endure the violence going on in today's world and many survive the worst so we can go to college. Some even have to adapt to a whole new culture.

When I was thirteen years old, in the boom of my social hunger, I had to leave it all for the acclaimed “American Dream.” By saying all I mean my dad, my sister, my grandparents and all those beloved friends. Coming from Uruguay was certainly challenging, but I am glad I was brought up there. Being different is not easy. One of the best assets of this country is its diversity, but boy is it hard to adapt to. Everybody has different ways, and I was the minority inside the minority. Only my pillow knew how much I wanted to be here as it absorbed the salty rivers of nostalgia, how much I wanted to go to college and succeed, after all that is why I came in the first place.

As I was starting to adapt while dealing with AP classes and extra-curricular activities, my life changed forever. One morning as I was biking to school a green light betrayed me. Somehow destiny had arranged it for me to grow up, FAST. The accident was between me and a truck trying to turn right. I spent an entire month in the hospital and two months out of school. It was said that I would not walk for about six months; in one month I was up giving my first baby steps. There is not enough paper and pen for me to express all the feelings I felt. Everything from gratefulness to an extreme anxiousness crossed my heart. Up until this point, all this sentiment gets stuck in my throat and tears peek out from my eyes because there is nothing that makes me more emotional than happiness itself, and the feeling of being alive.

This is just my experience abbreviated. However, there are so many of us out there, so many people who need to go to college. There are a lot of us who never give up and knock trucks over so that one day we might become almost as great as those who helped us get through. That is the main reason why we deserve a spot in college; so that we can help those who might be physically down to keep their spirits up.
