Have you ever found yourself putting off important tasks repeatedly to the point where it is the last minute? I know I have and I know that I am not alone. Procrastination is one of the main things why people get held back in their achievements, eventually disrupting their careers. That is why time management is important.
At my age, kids tend to do their homework after they play video games or play outside with their friends. Other reasons why kids tend to procrastinate is because they want to enjoy their time and not do homework. Nonetheless, we still have to do it; it's just that we tend to leave it for later.
Other reasons why people procrastinate is because they just want to get everything done perfectly. If they don't find everything they need to accomplish their work, they'll just simply put it off. Feeling overwhelmed is a big one. If we don't know how to do certain things, we think it's better not to do it at all. On the other hand, maybe we just think it is time consuming to figure out how to do it.
The importance of time management is high because it can determine your future. If you want to be successful, you need to achieve a high degree of education. If you don't know how to properly manage your time in university or college, you may have a hard time working your way through it. That is why it is best to learn how in an early stage, so this way you won't be troubled when you really need it. Imagine learning how to manage time in university where you got enough things to worry about.
If you find that you've just had enough, follow these three yet simple steps in overcoming procrastination. The first step is being honest to yourself and recognizing it if you are procrastinating. This is important because it tells you if you need to continue on to the next steps. The second step is to figure out why you are putting things off. If you don't know why, you might not be able to stop it. You don't know what to stop. The most important step of all: getting over it. If you find that you just can't, then figure out the consequences. One of them might be educational problems.
Getting over this habit is easy. You just need to learn how to manage your time properly. The easiest way to do this is creating a to-do list. Just write the things you need to do and mark them as “important” and “unimportant”. Once you have done that, work on the important tasks first, and see to the unimportant ones after. This way, you know you have your main priorities done and you don't need to worry about them.
You may find this very helpful, but some people have their own way on completing their work. Also, promising yourself rewards can be motivational. People think a good example would be eating at a buffet for lunch. Actually, it isn't. It will just make you hungry, and make you rush through your work. As we all now, fast isn't always the best. It's better to be slow than sorry in some cases.
Managing your time can manage your future. If you don't start now, you might never learn how. It may sound like a hard task but trust me, once you figure it out, it'll be like dotting your i's and crossing your t's. I cannot stress this enough. Time management is very important.
