I hate it when I sit down, do my work in a textbook, and forget what I just read. Sometimes you just think of hanging with your friends tomorrow or what you are going to do after homework. The secret is scan.
- Scan the pictures, don't just think they are good because they waste reading space. They are important!
- Always read over bold words. Maybe it is a term or vocab and can help you in what you are reading about.
- Try to enjoy what you are reading, maybe relate the information to history or yourself.
- Quite spaces make it so much easier to read.
- Try reading like in a whisper, hearing what you read is another tool to learning.
- If there are questions, try reading them first so you can find the answers.
- Reading 8 pages in a textbook could take 25 min. If you scan those 8 pages, maybe 10-15 min.
I hate reading social studies textbooks but now found it is more productive when I scan and learn something. Maybe scanning will make you learn more and take less time.
