How to Haiku: Five Steps

A handy guide to writing these simple Japanese poems... in Haiku form!

  1. Five syllables first,
    seven syllables second
    five syllables third.
  2. Haikus should be deep
    expressions of emotion.
    Mine are random jokes.
  3. You don't have to give
    your haikus any rhyme scheme.
    Just don't worry, man.
  4. Haikus should honor
    Something important on earth
    Ignore this right here.
  5. The previous rule
    completely and utterly
    undermines my schtick.

Enjoy it. Any particular reason rules 3 and 4 weren't Haiku's? Nevertheless, simple and useful.

Har har har.

Delightful... reminds me of my own \"Howku\" from years past-- though my own is not nearly as brazen... *le sigh*

This is a haiku
Five, seven, five syllables
That\'s how we do it

Thanks Mox. They are haikus, recount the syllables.

I like yours too mark. "That's how we do it", lol. I can't believe I didn't come up with the title 'Howku', that's so perfectly cheesy!
