At this stage in your life, you're taking on more responsibility. That means you have more choices. And for me, making decisions aren't the easiest. You feel like you're obligated to make the right choice, that everybody seems to know BUT YOU! Sometimes there's a deadline and you have to make your choice quickly, which is very nerve racking. What's going to help in making your choices seem easier, you ask, there is no simple answer. I can give a little help though; ask the person you trust the most in your life, to help you make the right choice. But even that sometimes doesn't help, because in the end it's your life, and they don't know exactly how you feel, and those other details that might affect you and your choice.
The major decision I have to make is which high school I'm going to choose. Whether you like it or not, you're going to high school and you'll be staying there for 4 rapid years. Time will go by quickly. There are so many choices and so many conflicts that can turn your mind. Distance is one problem. Deciding how to get to that school, whether by bus, walking, GO, or Mississauga transit. Cost is also a factor. For example, if you have to pay for many books, or even for school fees. And last but definitely not least, education. Does this school have a good educational program that is effective, worth the late night studying, and the struggle? Does this school have what you need to make your life after high school more successful. Very frequently, high school students go to their home school, complete their four high school years and get their diploma. After a celebration for completing high school, they're still lost. Without a clue what their next step is going to be. This is why you choose the right school and for a lack of words, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! There is only so much time in school, plan ahead! All you're going to do is find yourself going back to the beginning for the education you now need.
This brings me to making good decisions. When you get into High school don't be a fool. Peer pressure and emotional struggle can cause you to make some pretty stupid mistakes! I've heard of kids dropping out, I've heard girls getting pregnant and I've heard of young guys getting sent to awful places because of the use of drugs! Make good choices, because you are known by the company you keep.
It's really weird how people can became so scared that they start to second guess themselves for the worst. Some high schools require a little extra effort, with a written application that is to be handed in before a certain date. SO WHAT?!! You have ample time to write it. It's not like they're asking you for a 4 page essay. They just want to know how important getting into this school is for you, and how dedicated you are towards receiving something you want. Think about it, what are you going to lose if you try and don't make it? Oh well, if they don't offer you a position in the school, then you know that it's not the right school for you. There's nothing wrong with that. That's why we always have a back-up plan. There will always be other opportunities for other things that might be even be better for you, so don't fret!
Some kids really want to get into a school, but they are so afraid of rejection that they don't even, try. Now tell me, what is the point of not even trying? All you're doing is giving yourself a definite rejection letter from you to yourself. It's terrible! I can speak about this from personal experience because I was scared to apply to a school myself. I thought it would be nearly impossible to get in.
There was an informational night at Glenforest, the school that I wanted to apply to, where all the students who were interested about going to this school would attend. There were about 1 thousand people in that auditorium, just waiting for information. I was so scared! All those smart looking people, it's very frightening. But you wouldn't believe how good it feels to look at the 150 people who's student numbers were listed on the acceptance list, posted on the internet. Just to see your own number staring at you. It felt like all the joy in your life, doesn't even matter, and still your heart quivers from the immense happiness. You're so pleased with yourself, that you can't sit still!
Life is what you make it. If you keep thinking positive and always try your best, you'll be a sure success. No one's perfect, but you can sure try to achieve everything you put your mind to do. The rest will eventually fall in line.
