Four Ways of Memorizing Pi

So, you want to memorize that Greek number pi? You really must be bored, but here you go!

The "4" method

Memorize 4 digits at a time, get those in firmly in your head - then try and memorise the next lot of 4 digits. Keep doing this until you've memorised as much as pi as you need/want to 

Audio/Photographic memory method

Check out the “ Pi song” by Steve Toner, keep singing it back to yourself until it sinks in!

The power of rhyme

Repeat this pneumonic (out loud!) until it's firmly in your head. You'll notice that the number of letters in each word are… (3.13156 etc.)

Amazing, isn't it? Now, I will a rhyme construct by chosen words the young instruct Cunningly devised endeavour Con it and remember ever Widths in circle here you see Sketched out in strange obscurity

  1. Count the letters of each word and write them down:
For example, the digits after the point (3.14159) would become "adaei"
  2. Don't mean to rain on your parade or be a… sour lemon or anything, but if all of the above fail, give up! No seriously, just do it

You probably weren't destined to memorise pi anyway. Sorry to break it to you like this, but if all the above fail; you're just not pi material!

An old math teacher of mine -- who was arguably brilliant and insane -- memorized pi up to 400-some digits. Every Friday, he'd have us quiz him while he wrote it on the chalkboard.

If he screwed up, or he didn't exceed his total from the week before, we all got a free day. Ah, high school.
