Five Reasons Why MySpace is a Bad Website

MySpace, Facebook, who knows how many more. Some people think they're good, some bad, some just don't care. Well, I think all social networking sites are horrible. Here are some reasons that support my opinion.

I really do not like MySpace, Facebook, or any other website of it's kind. No, not just because I'm jealous of the website designers. No, not because I can't figure out how to make an account. And no, it's not because I can't get friends. Here are the real reasons I don't like MySpace.

Note: For this article I am only going to say MySpace but when I say it I mean all the websites like it. (Facebook, etc.)

  1. Getting Obsessed with MySpace

This is horrible. One, you don't have any time to focus on important like your job or school work. And another, what happens when MySpace starts to lose money and completely shuts itself down. You'd go insane! What about if your computer is broken and you no longer have access to MySpace. You'd go insane!
Here's a link to video proof of a kid's MySpace obsession.
  2. Who Are Your Friends?

One of your friends could very well be a child molester who is 60 years old and is ready to strike. I do have to admit to MySpace doing a good job at working with people to help prevent this, but you never know. Always know who you are you are talking to.
  3. Can't Talk To Your Friends Face to Face?

There is no emotion in typing stuff. Yes, I know what emoticons are. But when you do have to talk to someone for something important you can't just type " :) ". It's better to talk in person than anything. You can't even have emotion in your voice when typing. Get off the computer and talk to your friends in person!
  4. Language Arts Grades Will Surely Go Down

With all off youre "lolz" n' " r u hear yet," you forget to write the real thang on that midterm. im sure the teacher has no idea what u r saying. when almost everyone messages each other (unless its formal), they dont care if they mispelled a word. im sure they never type appostrophes.
  5. Lack of Exercise

I'm sure if your sitting at the computer "talking" you will not be active and your eyes will get worse. Go out, take a walk with your friend and have a chat. You are talking, you get excersise, and you aren't sitting at a computer screen.

MySpace: bad for teens, bad for America!

Super Bad for teens. Its the new way of communication. Phones access the internet and kids have alot at the tip of their fingertips. When I was In school the text in class was banned but hell now there is no telling whats up. Great point, child molesters have taken a new location and a backseat to talking face to face. Its just sad how the internet has lead to more and more crime. Lack of social skills and exercise is a big deal. What is becoming a great social expereince in school and colleges, is not Myspace, its talking and making a network of friends that you can actually hang out with, not just type a message to. Very great article.

Hey, I'm a teen, and I COMPLETELY agree with you. Boycott Facebook & MySpace!

While I agree in part with the sentiment, some of your opinions are apparently based on erroneous assumptions rather than actual fact. I'll address each one.

Reason 1. Obsession with anything isn't necessarily a bad thing, however will power and moderation are key in fighting any kind of obsession. That doesn't make MySpace (or websites like it) bad, it means the teen needs to learn to control how much time she/he spends on it. A hammer isn't evil if someone uses it to bash someone else's head it, it's the user who decides how to use it.

Reason 2. This is the case with ANY chat place on the internet (or phone chat companies). A degree of wisdom (formerly known as common sense) and monitoring by an adult helps keep this to a minimum. However, there has been issues with this on MySpace and you're right, they've taken a very active role in trying to limit and prevent it.

Reason 3. That's what Skype is for. MySpace (in my case) is for creativity and keeping general contact with friends and family. It's up to the individual (aka, the USER) to moderate the reasons for their usage.

Reason 4. Well, that kind of abbreviated slang has been going on since BBS's were around (think pre-AOL). MySpace hardly originated it, and as you can tell, my writing did not and does not suffer when I need to make use of it.

Reason 5. This reason has been given for anything and everything in the past from watching television to listening to the radio. It's so overused and generic that I'm surprised it was even listed as a reason.

Anything in excess is a bad thing. But just because you dislike it doesn't mean others can't find good in it.

For the most part though, this article was reasonably well written though not very fact-based. You should address real issues and reasons (Reason #2 was actually the closest to a real issue reason) on the subject rather than basing it on personal opinions; I would have found it more tangible and taken it a bit more seriously if real research had gone into it.

Forgive me, the very first thing I stated in Reason 1 was mis-stated : It should have said "Obsession with anything isn't necessarily a GOOD thing..."

Thanks :)

1.I have seen many people get obsessed with Myspace.
2.I actually know someone who got unwanted sex from some guy on Facebook.
3.This goes along with number 1.
4.I was monitoring a few kid's Language Arts grades before and after I hooked them to Myspace. They went down a letter grade in a month. From an A to a B. Now it continues going down about a percentage every few weeks. They rarely go up.
5.Yes, I agree that anything has lack of exercise, but Myspace gets them on the computer more than if they weren't on Myspace. It contributes to there not exercise.

And everything you said was also factual. As I said, These were only reasons to support my opinion.

Nice article, getting addicted to practically
anything is bad but I see your point and it's
a good one. I liked it, too many people get
caught up on things like that and meet friends
they don't even know are what they say they are!
You should check out some of my articles, I bet
