College is tough. And finding the money for college is often tougher. There is nothing that can scorch your wallet like the need to buy a $150 textbook. Oh, wait, there is something worse: The need to buy a $150 textbook for each class. One way that you can save money is by sharing textbooks in a club.
What this means is that the books can be purchased and shared by the members of the club, or any organization on campus for that matter. You are really creating a library. Suppose that there are four members in the club who are all taking a specific class. If four students were to buy the required $150 book, then the students are out $600. They could all chip in ¼ of the cost, buy 1 book, and share the book four ways.
This could be a big money saving strategy, but there are significant drawbacks. Somebody needs to manage how the books are checked out of the library and used for the assignments and studying for the tests. If everybody needs the book at exactly the same time, you'll have a problem. With a little discipline and a system, you can keep everybody honest and happy. The Google calendar is a great way to do this.
This service is free and all of the library members can login, reserve books on the calendar and see who has the book at a specific time. What you are really doing is saving money and accepting the need to schedule your book usage.
Club book sharing, if well managed, could be a great way to help you save money on your textbook purchases.
