Youth are prone to learning - either what is good or otherwise, though they need the guidance of more mature people than themselves. The question of drug addiction among the youth has become so rampant that the root causes are overlooked while the effects receive a lot of attention from the public.

It is commonly believed that most indispensable behavior and characters in people are acquired from mates at such tender ages, while in school when their intellectual shoots are beginning to blossom. And it is at this stage that Parents and teachers into whose hands these children have been entrusted would need to pay great attention to what they do.

In the school, there are those who regard themselves as the big boys and girls, who indulge in ant-school rules and regulations like smoking of cigarettes and hemp. These "Bad" boys and girls are often admired by the younger people in the junior classes, who are tempted to try these habits privately until they graduate into taking them publicly in the admiration of other students.

At this Stage, they maintain a group relationship and a sort of cult membership of entrusted friends who try new drugs and practices with innocent indulgence.

One wonders why some young boys and girls, especially those from rich homes find themselves taking drugs than those from the rich homes. The possible reason is that rich children are kept afar from their parents who are always looking for money and have little or no time for the welfare of their children. Most of these parents cannot give a good account of their children's way of life.

The lack of attention from parents to their children leaves the children in the cold, and they become prone to imbibing bad habits from other idle children who are on the look-out for more converts. These children start taking drugs in order to console their idle minds and cover up the vacuum created by parents absence and non-chalant attitude towards them.

Youth born by parents who take or deal on drugs are bound to take them even at very tender ages because the way the drugs exchange hands in their homes by their parents, make them feel find themselves in a compulsive situation to try these drugs themselves.

It is only when parent show more concern about their children that the whole problem, control and education or prevention of youths from getting involved in drugs can be achieved. The mere assurance by parents that their children are their greatest gifts and not the material or financial wealth they run is enough to prevent these young ones from going into drugs and recurring those who are deep into it.

Closeness of Parents to their children, adequate attention to their need and the ability of the parents to notice changes in the behavior and appearance of their children will help correct or prevent these young people from going into drugs.
