Contentment

What Mona Lisa means to me.

The painting of Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci is very intriguing to me. The painting captures the very mystery of human expression. It inspires me to learn more about psychology. I want to discover the pattern of human traits. I want to find what makes the human mind tick. The study of the "inner" person is my passion.

The painting of Mona Lisa is a reflection of myself. I consider myself nondescript. I can be overly happy and still have the same expression on my face. In the painting, Mona Lisa neither has a frown nor a smile upon her face. She carries a look of contentment. Looking at her makes me wonder what her life was like. What are her strengths and weaknesses? I like to look to look at this painting and create a past for her. Was she married? What was her social class? Did she have children? This painting is an open field for imagination.

I envision Mona Lisa as an ordinary woman who is content with her niche in society. She was not a "wonder woman" who had everything figured out. She was like everyone else. The originality of this painting comes from its depth of an ordinary life. This woman may not have had all the materialistic things she wanted, but she was rich in heart. The hardest thing to have within you is contentment. In a way, that makes her immortal. The human spirit is never content. God even sees that in us in our prayers. We pray for rain and then we complain that there is no sunshine. It is in our nature. It is tough to break the bondage of want and to be content where you stand. Mona Lisa should be a model to us all.
