It is actually the dreadful symbolism for sin and human temptation here on earth. The 4-faced card on the table represents the versatility of the chameleon's mind constructed facades. And with these masks, he embarks upon faceless casualties, heartlessly and mercilessly, just like shuffling a deck of playing cards.
