The Palladium Theatre in London

One of the historic venues for entertainment, the Palladium Theatre has a history of its own.

This venue for showmanship was built in 1910. Before that time, Hengler's Circus was at the same place. The 1910 building was simply called The Palladium. The longer name came in 1934. This site has been a circus, a wine bazaar and an ice skating rink over the years.

During the 1950s, the theatre televised a weekly variety show for the British television audience. At one time, there were telephone lines going from box to box in the theatre, but those are gone now.

The Crazy Gang, a group of comedians from 1931 to 1939, had shows at the Palladium Theatre. Judy Garland and her daughter, Liza Minnelli, had a highly popular concert there in the 1960s. Many other shows at this historic theatre have included Showboat, Oliver, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The King and I, Cage aux Folles, and Singing in the Rain.

The theatre has dealt mostly with musicals since the 1980s as this seems to be its most popular form of entertainment.

There are three audience levels in the Palladium Theatre, which seats nearly 2300 patrons per show.
