Architecture comes from a Latin word call architectura. Architecture covers a wide variety of subjects ranging from mathematics to astronomy, to meterology and medicine. Architecture needs to take into account everything touching on the physical and intellectual life of man and his surrounding. A modern-day definition see architecture as addressing to structural, functional consideration, psychological, cultural and most important aesthetic. This is usually done by manipulating spaces, volume, texture, light and shadow.
Architecture first started uncounciously during the primative age because there are basic needs such as shelter, security and worship. As time goes by it began to evolve itself into a craftwork that is view as aethestic. People began to have ornaments and decorative sculpture to reflect on constant engagement on divine and supernatural. A new chapter began during the Industrial Revolution when mass produce was encourged and craftwork was slowly replaced by machine. Then came modernism whereby decorative façade and historial references were removed in favour of purely functional structures. The ever changing of our living culture , needs and purpose in life leads to the type of architecture that is been built during that era.
Architecture is not about a personal preference or aethestic view by individual, it has to consider the everyday needs of people and use technology to create a better living environment. As the needs to understand different culture , living style and responds to different needs, architecture gets more and more complex each day. The role of other professionalism is now much needed in order to assist the architect in making our live a whole new experience.
