The Most Unique House in Seal Beach, California

This was voted most unique house in the United States in 1992.

The water tower house in Seal Beach, California was originally used to service the steam engines that passed through.

After years of wear and tear, it was slated to be torn down in 1980. Due to some local activists, they were able to restore the old redwood tower. The tank portion was lowered to the ground and made into a domicile which was then lifted by crane back into its original position on 21 wooden legs reinforced with steel.

This interesting house stands 9 stories high, is over 100 years old, has 2 Jacuzzis, an elevator, 2 master suites, fire pit, bar, winding staircase, maid quarters, and 4 bathrooms with one that rotates. The house is over 3000 sq feet and it overlooks the beautiful California coast.

It was repurchased by Jerry Wallace who was a local real estate trader and retired firefighter. He has since transformed the water tower into one of the most distinctive houses in the United States. It was actually voted the most unique residence in 1992 in the United States.

Here's how it all started:

What a unique home. I saw where this guy had built his house on the frame of a some big piece of equipment like a bulldozer or something. Anyway he could move his house around his lot. If he wanted direct sun in the kitchen he just used the equipment to rotate his house. Then turn it again to get sunlight in some other room. It was odd, but like your house...unique. Great read, as usual.

This was great, if I was a multimillionaire I might be interested in purchasing it from him. I know, however, that I will never be able to afford such a place. Doesn\'t stop me from enjoying his home, though, and your work.
Great piece!
