Organic Architecture was derived from Frank Lloyd Wright who believed that our surroundings should promote harmony and should co-exist with nature like a living organism.
"So here I stand before you preaching organic architecture: declaring organic architecture to be the modern ideal and the teaching so much needed if we are to see the whole of life, and to now serve the whole of life, holding no traditions essential to the great TRADITION." - Frank Lloyd Wright, An Organic Architecture, 1939.
The structure should convey the power of music; it should sustain life; it should grow with you beyond your years; it should celebrate the spirit of youth and surprise.
Education City Convention Center

The Education City Convention Center is slated to open in 2010, on the outskirts of Doha, Qatar. The structure is designed by Arata Isozaki who has integrated two intertwined trees to support the building's external sunshade.

The original house that Wright designed and built was structured around
already living things. He wanted to bring the outdoors right to his own front door. "Wright built a passageway around an existing willow tree when he added his studio in 1898."
Falling Water

Wright was a true believer in the harmony of the structure. This was depicted in his Falling Waters house.
Sea Ranch

This Organic home is situated 100 miles north of San Francisco. This multi-story house was built with unstained and unpainted wood and situated among the trees. There are many of these types of homes along the coral reefs of the shoreline, which were built for rich vacationers from the local surrounding areas.
Wilkenson House by Robert Oshatz

A treetop villa built by architect Robert Oshatz. It's an ode to the Swiss family Robinson with a geometric twist; situated within the trees and surrounded by all of nature.

The architect, Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, was influenced to build this piece of art after studying Frank Lloyd Wrights work. He believes that the home should harmonize with its surroundings. He was right, it does!
Balmoral

This lovely castle is the Queen's Scottish summer retreat. The organic structure is completely self-sufficient, energy wise. There was a small hydro-electric plant installed and developed on a rushing brook in the outlying forest. The plant itself generates enough energy to the residents in the area with the excess sold to the national grid. All farming practices are registered with the Soil Association, which promotes organic fare and agriculture.
Eve's Garden Organic Bed & Breakfast and Ecology Resource

This organic retreat is located in the desert town of Marathon, Texas, about 69 miles north of Big Bend National Park. This lovely B & B is built out of papercrete which is composed of recycled paper fiber and cement.
The process used by architect, Roald Gundersen, increases the health of our forests and creates a stronger framework for the home. He incorporates unmilled trees which add to the organic style as well as maintain the preservation of our natural forests.

Project Biodome

Edward Dilley is the creator of this "geodesic sustainable dome", located in Elko, Nevada. He gathers heat and electricity from the sun and collects drinking water from the air.
