Drinking cans of beer isn't just a pleasurable pass time. It can be very useful, as one Texas gentleman proved..
John Milkovisch of Houston, Texas downed 39,000 cans of beer in 18 years, but not just for pleasure. He replaced much of his house with aluminum beer cans instead of making conventional repairs. The first part of the project was to replace the aluminum sidings of his house with crushed beer cans.

He also made beer can fences and whirligigs in the garden with different brands of beer can and the eaves around the house were hung with streamers made from ring pulls. These act like curtains and tinkle in the wind. They are certainly the ultimate in wind chimes.
The garden is paved and decorated with marbles, bits of rock and metal and other glittery objects, all set in red wood panels and concrete blocks. He replaced the grassed area around the house so that he didn't have to cut the grass, or so he said.

The house was already becoming a famous folk art site when Milkovisch died in 1988. It fell into disrepair but a grant for $125,000 helped to restore the site. It is now open to the public and also houses a folk art museum.
