21 Things You Probably Never Knew About Caricatures

Caricaturing turns up everywhere from ancient caves to toilet walls but what is it and where did it come from? Most people don’t know it was actually discovered by chance as a by-product of the space program!

  1. Caricatures are pronounced car-ICK-a-tures. Not Character-tures.
  2. Sometimes they're pronounced car-ick-a-TURES. Both are ok.
  3. Just not character-tures "cause that"s plain silly. That's not even in the dictionary.
  4. Most professional caricature artists aren't cruel to people. That's hobbyists, generally.
  5. Caricature artists are generally good-looking, smell great and are rarely seen without attractive partners.
  6. They also have excellent imaginations.
  7. A caricature artist draws cartoons of real people, as cartoons!
  8. And sometimes from photographs.
  9. A caricature artist can draw someone doing almost anything (though popular favourites are playing golf and with musical instruments. Less popular: sniper rifles, big knives and punching some unfortunate).
  10. And also poisoning a stream is unpopular.
  11. Famous people are not always fun to draw. In fact, they're not always fun to be around.
  12. Some are though. The ones I've met have been pretty cool.
  13. Some artists like you to sit still, but I don't. I prefer you to move around and be yourself. How else can I see who you are?
  14. Many events these days are popular to have a caricature artist working with you at. Funerals aren't though.
  15. It's a job unlike any other, but like most others, it has its moments.
  16. Caricature artists weren't all "born with the ability". Some of us trained ourselves to do it.
  17. Don't laminate your caricature! Put it in a frame or it'll be worthless, regardless of who drew it. You don't see them laminating anything in museums and galleries.
  18. Laminate your fake ID though, or else it looks fake.
  19. All cartoonists aren't caricature artists. And all caricature artists aren't portrait artists.
  20. Yes, I can draw two people on a page. Why do people imagine that would be any more difficult?
  21. Caricatures are genuine art. Even Da Vinci and Michelangelo did them.
