War of the Web

The battle of the Internet between men and women.

Warring over the web is the big, new threat to domestic bliss as families across London are spending less time on the phone and more time on the internet.

The tension is rising for both couples and families, as one-in-three internet users admit to spending the equivalent of two working days a week on the internet in their spare time.

On the 5th August a survey, commissioned by the broadband provider, Bulldog Communications shows that 42% of Londoners say they have to wait their turn before they get to use the net. Helen Andrews a 36 year old customer service advisor from Fulham, said, “I have to use the internet at work. Between my husband and 13 year old son I don't get a look in. They're on it all the time’”.

The battle of the sexes is going on-line as well. Thirty six per cent of couples argue over the time their partner spends on the internet. Women are annoyed the most: as men admitted that internet surfing is leading to relationship tension. Richard Evans a 46 year old teacher from Fulham; said “my wife and I frequently bicker over the net. I tend to give in more, for a peaceful life”.

London is becoming a city of internet addicts. Everyone needs their daily fix and for some it’s fast turning into an obsession. Keri Lloyd 21, from Hammersmith is one such person. She says that, “I work in an office and couldn't get through the day without the internet. I am constantly checking my emails even when I know my inbox is empty”.

In an attempt to curb the feuding families and couples with their fight for the web; Bulldog has launched the UK’s first super fast service and dial-up connection. This should speed up the internet and help create more harmony within London homes.
