Egypt with Reservations

Traveling like the pharaohs.

While wanting to go to see the sights along with the museums in Egypt, some reservations came with those desires. I willingly share some caution with you in the event you plan a trip to see the tombs and more.

As the booking process is still in its formation, inquire if you will be in a safe zone within the country. Even if you are in a secure place, you might hear gunshots at any hour and never know where they came from either.  A more than 4 star hotel is certainly advised for security purposes and not for the amenities it  produces. Ask if an interpreter will be accompanying you and your party to your sight seeing excursions unless you speak the native language well.

If at all possible do not rent a car, but let the locals, taxi you on the busy, narrow and wild streets. The drive with a cab driver will remind you of the "bumper cars" you drove when you were young. Honestly, the drivers actually bump into each other and then continue on their journey. While you are seeing the sights your driver will make sure the vehicle stays in one piece until you are back in his hired car. It is not uncommon to have parts of the vehicle removed in a short time if left unattended.

Camel rides are quite an experience! Take one keeping some things in mind. Someone has to barter before you even mount the animal. The person giving you the rare opportunity of riding on the hump backed animal also rides with you. This is done not necessarily for safety, but to entice you to give the animal trainer some of your jewelry or extra money in exchange for a pleasant and safe ride. Money is exchanged before you go for your trip, which is very short. This extra added bonus is asked for, in addition to your already paid , negotiated price. If you remain firm that sufficient amount has already been paid, you might have to walk back in the sand with several camels drifting by you often. A good idea is to say you will check when you return to your pick up point as to extra money earned. If a tip is in order you will be thanked profusely.

Try not leaving the well known pyramid country without going to King Tut museum pronounced "toot". Even  though it is not very large, you will be amazed at its contents.  Another must is the trip down the Nile. It must be booked in advance since it requires connections by plane, dingy and finally the cruise ship down the River. this is like no other cruise you have or ever will take. I won't spoil things for you by telling you anymore so have a wonderful time in your travels!
