What Can You Get Done in 15 Minutes?

Do you ever have time for anything? If you are like most Americans, your minutes throughout the day seem to be counted. If you take minutes from your next "thing-to-do", you'll be late with your next item on the list.

Why do we live like this?  Because we have to.  There are 24 hours in a day.  A few hours are spent sleeping, one or two are spent eating, and the rest we spend working on something that we need to get done in order to earn our monthly wages.

So, take some time to smell the flowers and take just 15 minutes of your time to breathe and....

  • Read to your child.  The short time you spend reading a favorite book will mean the world to a child.  You will also be contributing to his education which is something that is definitely a great thing.
  • Declutter a room in your house.  Clutter brings us many negative things such as confusion when you can't find what you're looking for, anger for the mess that you see day in and day out, not to mention dust which causes many allergies.
  • Vacuum your car interior.  Why pay someone to do it when you can do it yourself for free.  It seems that we live in an economic situation where we spend only on things we need most.  You can save $40 by washing and then vacuuming your own vehicle.  You will feel great satisfaction when others take note of your beautiful clean car.
  • Rearrange your furniture.  Sometimes rearranging the furniture in your bedroom will make you feel as if you have a brand new room without the big expense of buying new furniture.
  • Walk your dog.  Just being outside will give you a sense of well-being.  The sun works wonders for depression.  Your pet loves the great outdoors and will appreciate you for taking the time to walk him.
  • Visit someone in a hospital or nursing home.  There are millions of elderly people living in nursing homes that don't have anyone who visits them.  It's not that they don't have any family, it's just that their family doesn't yet know how to spend just 15 minutes of their time wisely. It is very sad to think that one day you may end up in a nursing home without ever having a visitor.
  • Play catch with your son or daughter.  When was the last time you told your children that you were too busy when they asked you to spend some time with them playing catch, throwing a ball, or just dancing to their favorite music.  How do your children see you now? Or do they EVER see you?
  • Wish upon a star.  Once the day is done and night falls, spend some time looking up at the sky and feel its enormity.  Your problems become small when you realize what really matters in your life.  Make it a point to catch a glimpse of the night's first star and make a wish.  It may just come true for you!
  • Put your thoughts in order.  When your mind is clear and you feel satisfied with where your life is going, you will become a better person.  Would things be ok if this was the last sentence you read?  If the next hour you live were your last, would you be satified and content with what you've done in life?

Take 15 minutes of your life to breathe and live just a little bit better.

Good luck! After reading this, you still have about 12 minutes to spare...go on and do something good!
