New Jersey Man Wins Award for Solving Tax Problems

Charles Montecino thwarts thorny tax traps for troubled taxpayers.

Some problems in life are small, such as how to skip commercials with your DVR; how to find someone to help you in any Home Depot and how to buy a printer cartridge without taking out a second mortgage on your home.

Other problems, however, are hair pullers and insomnia-inducing. Those problems typically include a sub-prime mortgage, an online poker addiction and, of course, tax audits by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the mother of all ulcer carriers. Just ask Wesley Snipes.

A letter from the IRS has caused many people to suddenly suffer from skyrocketing blood pressure readings, severe stress headaches and hands that tremble incessantly.

According to H.R. Block, more than four million taxpayers have significant tax problems every year. Those problems range from how to calculate their tax bill to tax “errors” on their return.

For most taxpayers, IRS rules and regulations are about as clear as the instruction manual for assembling an entertainment center from Wal-Mart.

So with so many people in tax purgatory, who can they turn to?

Well, if they live the South Jersey area, troubled taxpayers can rely on CPA Charles Montecino to help them solve their tax problems.

Montecino - Charlie to his clients -- graduated from Rutgers University in 1973 and has more than 25 years of experience specializing in tax problem resolution (TAPeR) work and runs a thriving accounting and tax preparation business in downtown Pitman, NJ.

Recently, Charlie was awarded the prestigious ASTPS Top Practitioner 2008 Awardby The American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS).

The ASTPS Top Practitioner Award recognizes distinguished members for their exemplary professional accomplishments, dedication, and contributions to the organization and the profession.

“Tax regulations grow more complex every year,” says Charlie. “Before computers, it wasn't unusual to have an entire room filled with tax accounting books and IRS updates. People often come to me with tax issues that have developed simply because they don't understand the rules. It's my job to put them at ease, explain the regulations and find a solution that meets their needs.”

Charlie credits the ASTPS organization with providing him with ongoing training for tax solutions by attending and instructing webinars and seminars.

“It's an honor to be recognized by such a quality organization as The American Society of Tax Problem Solvers,” says Charlie.

Besides ASTPS, Charlie is a Member of American Institute of CPAs, NJ Society of CPAs, Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, a Member of Federal Tax Committee of both NJ and PA CPAs, member of steering committee and panelist of South Jersey Working Together Conference, which is a joint conference of the practitioner community and the IRS.

When clients first meet Charlie Montecino, they are struck by his deep, authoritative voice, friendly smile and his office filled with knick knacks ranging from a Jimmy Rollins bobble head doll to vintage UPS model vehicles.

Charlie is a man of many interests, ranging from Philadelphia sports teams to his beloved Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

“My second home is a Phillies game,” says Charlie with a twinkle in his eye. “That's where I get to watch the manager and players solve the problem of winning.”

Charlie has been happily married to his wife Sue for more than 35 years and they have two daughters, Meggan and Sheila, and two grandsons, Joey and Logan.

As he continues to grow his practice, Charlie would like to turn it over to Meggan one day, who is the Enrolled Agent working for Charlie.

For clients who go to Charlie Montecino with tax problems that may seem insurmountable, they will find constant reassurance from a man with a quarter a century of experience, a passion for helping people and the expertise to find a solution to the toughest tax problems.
